MEET ANDREW KRIZ
Andrew Kriz is a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences majoring in Political Science and Economics. He has two visions he feels passionate about: expanding the Illini Union Board and creating a new organization to be an umbrella for all registered student organizations on campus. For his efforts, Andrew has received one of the 2005 Edith and Harry Darby ExCEL Scholarships provided by VCSA.
Andrew is focused and determined to make his senior year one of leadership and action to expand the Illini Union Board and to generate activity and alliances among students, student organizations, departments and the campus.
THE EXCEL SCHOLARSHIPS
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) awards seven $1,500 scholarships each year to students who have demonstrated academic distinction and will assume a leadership position within a registered student organization in the coming academic year. Funding for the ExCEL (Exemplary, Committed & Engaged Leaders) Scholarship Program is provided by private gifts from alumni and friends of Student Affairs.
The Edith and Harry Darby Foundation was established to honor Senator and Mrs. Darby. Senator Darby received his bachelor’s degree in 1917 and master’s degree in 1929 from Illinois, both in mechanical engineering. While at Illinois, he served as junior councilman and then president of the Illinois Union (an organization whose primary purpose was to raise funds for the construction of a union building). He was also a member of Sachem and served on several campus-wide committees.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
Illini Union Program Advisor Jessica Shields speaks highly of Andrew and his “…amazing dedication to promoting community building initiatives among students.”
