Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) Seminar
Looking at Art Today

Beckman Institute Auditorium, 405 N. Mathews Ave., Urbana
Is painting being proclaimed once again, as so often in the past, “dead?” In today’s
techno-centric world, we’re continually bombarded by a gluttony of visual imagery via all things digital, so what does it mean to simply look at or be absorbed by a painting on a wall, a lowly, archaic medium that some among the art elite even refer to nowadays as “quaint,” “nostalgic,” “irrelevant?”  Connect with exhibiting artist and University of Illinois Professor Emeritus Rosalyn Schwartz  in this OLLI session as she discusses how you can engage with contemporary painting and create your own personal meaning.

Kaplan, the Peer and Sarah Pedersen Professor of Law, talk about the economic, financial, legal, and political aspects of these issues. Dr. Kaplan will be joined by co-presenter Dr. Jeffrey R.
