Mission, Values & Responsibilities

Mission

The University of Illinois Foundation is a nonprofit corporation responsible for encouraging and administering private gifts made to further the University’s mission. Although the Foundation is a separate entity from the U of I, the Foundation’s sole reason for existence is to serve the University.

Core values

The University of Illinois Foundation applies several important core values to its everyday interactions with colleagues, alumni and donors. Business practices and interpersonal communications are based on the following ideals:

Responsibilities

University of Illinois Foundation responsibilities include:

  • Receipting and acknowledging private gifts as part of our stewardship
  • Directing gifts to the area or project chosen by a donor
  • Making regular reports to donors
  • Allocating money according to the terms of a designated gift
  • Managing undesignated or unrestricted funds to provide the greatest benefit for the University
  • Acting as custodian for endowed funds
  • Serving in legal capacities for planned giving arrangements
